Intimate Generations

The Kohl Gallery at Washington College
Curated by Tara Gladden
January 29 —February 29, 2020

Washington College, Chestertown, MD

The Kohl Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition, Intimate Generations, curated by Gallery Director and Curator Tara Gladden, on view January 29-February 29, 2020. A reception will be held on Tuesday, February 18, from 4:30-6:30pm featuring in-gallery artist talks and performances of original dances made in response to works on display by Washington College dance composition students.

Intimate Generations features contemporary artists working broadly around themes of family connection. Artists chanan delivuk, Roxana Alger Geffen, Aimee Gilmore, Khánh H. Lê, Kalen Na’il Roach, and Aaron Wax reimagine family narratives, illuminating and re-envisioning lives and identities. Selected works communicate an array of contradictory emotions, demonstrating how each person’s relationship with their family is a uniquely complicated issue. Whether we feel close or not, we get along or we don’t, we are intimately connected. We can create distance if necessary, but it’s difficult to escape formative memories, ancestral bonds, and DNA. Individual expressions of love, joy, longing, heartache, connection, and critique all live equally within Intimate Generations.
